Editorial policy

Being specific about how content is made is the difference between a site that is trusted and one that is not. This page states exactly what is written by people, what is computed by code, and what is assisted by AI.

Three kinds of content, three different standards

1. Computed data — no human judgement involved

Contrast ratios, relative luminance, hue angles, colour-name distances and hue spread are calculated from the HEX values. They are arithmetic, not opinion. The formulas are stated on the about page and the implementation is verified against published reference values before release. If a number here is wrong it is a bug, and we want to hear about it.

2. Reference pages — written and reviewed by people

Category and seasonal pages describe what those colour families are and how they are used. These are written by the editorial team, reviewed for accuracy against colour-theory sources, and updated when the guidance changes.

3. Articles — human-written, AI-assisted, named and dated

Articles carry a byline and a last-updated date. Where AI tools are used in drafting — outlining, research summarisation, copy editing — that is disclosed on the article itself. AI is not used to invent facts, statistics, quotes or sources. Any claim that cannot be verified against a primary source does not go in.

How AI is used, specifically

Used for: outlining, restructuring drafts, summarising research we have already read, checking tone and reading level, generating descriptive metadata.
Not used for: fabricating statistics, inventing quotations, attributing claims to sources we have not consulted, or generating pages at scale purely to capture search traffic.
Always disclosed: if a piece was drafted with AI assistance, the article says so.

We would rather tell you plainly than have you find out. Content that exists only to fill a page is a liability for readers and for us.

Independence and funding

Color Fiind is independent. It is not paid to rank palettes, to feature brands, or to present any colour combination as better than another. If that ever changes — advertising, sponsorship, affiliate arrangements — it will be labelled on the page where it appears.

Corrections

Errors are corrected, not deleted. Substantive corrections are noted on the page. The update date reflects the last real change, not a cosmetic touch. Report an error via the contact page.

Use of our data

HEX values, palettes and computed contrast ratios are facts and are not copyrightable. Copy them, use them commercially, embed them, no attribution needed. We ask only that you do not republish our written articles wholesale.
